DynaLiners Daily - Maersk's Mercosul Line to CMA CGM
Maersk Line has agreed to sell its Brazil domestic/intra-East Coast South America operator Mercosul Line to CMA CGM. The deal is subject to the successful conclusion of the Maersk takeover of Hamburg Süd and to regulatory approval from Brazil. The acquisition will only take place after Maersk Line starts integrating Hamburg Süd. It can clearly be considered a win-win deal. Maersk needs to sell because of regulatory concerns over its potential dominance in the Brazil domestic market once Hamburg Süd and its Brazil-based affiliate Aliança are integrated. For CMA CGM, it can now keep its (flag-bound and therefore expensive) feedering in house while it inherits an established name along this route.
